Session A
Workshop 1: Early Literacy Panel
Presenters: Elizabeth Soltero & Donie Gignac (Pima County Public Library), Mary Jan Bancroft, MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS Staff
Description: Each organization will discuss the early literacy programs & services they deliver and which have been successful for increasing awareness about the importance of early literacy for parents, child care providers, educators, grandparents, etc. They will also talk about how they provide this information to the Spanish-speaking.
Workshop 2: Literacy for Life — Literacies for Youth and Adults
Presenters: Gina Macaluso (Pima County Public Library), Alexandra (Alex) Rivera (UA Libraries), Joe Labuda (Library Director, Pima Community College-West Campus) & Dawn Gardner (Pima County Public Library/Literacy for Life Coalition)
Description: A panel of professionals and youth from the Pima County Public Library, Pima Community College, University of Arizona, and Literacy for Life Coalition will discuss successful literacy programs & services for teens and adults focusing on best practices for serving Latino and Spanish-speaking populations.
Session B
Workshop 3: Successful Library-Community Partnerships
Presenters: Pat Auflick (Arizona Health Sciences Library), Oscar Hernandez (Dr. Fernando Escalante Community Library and Resource Center), Rebecca Swift (Pima County Public Library) & Margaret Guerrero (PCPL).
Description: This panel of diverse library professionals will offer insight from their library experiences, highlighting programs that were successful because of a partnership. They will offer detailed examples of partnership building and best practices for maintaining such partnerships. Questions and discussion will be moderated.
Workshop 4: Successful Outreach and Marketing Practices Panel
Presenters: Gabrielle Sykes-Casavant (UA Libraries), Sol Gomez (PCPL), Francisco Vargas (Yuma Public Library) & Obdulia Gonzalez (Tucson Unified School District).
Description: This panel of diverse librarians from academic, public and school libraries will present on how their organizations effectively market their programs to their communities as well as highlight the importance of marketing and outreach from libraries to communities. Each speaker will talk about successful practices that can be adopted by other libraries–especially public libraries–in order to better market their services to Latinos and the Spanish-speaking and provide outreach to those communities.
Session C
Workshop 5: Leading by Working with Community Partners
Presenters: Tomas Leon & Antonio Gomez
Description: This session highlights the lessons learned of library and community leaders that have successfully leveraged community assets and resources for the greatest impact. They will discuss how to create a network of partners and affiliates, as well as provide insight on how this can positively support both community and library leadership development. Question and discussion will be moderated.

Workshop 6: SB 1070, HB 2281 and Librarianship in Arizona
Presenters: Roberto “Dr. Cintli” Rodriguez (UA Mexican American-Raza Studies Professor), Darlane Santa Cruz (UA Graduate Student), Sean Arce (Director of TUSD Mexican American Studies) & Kim Dominguez (Pima College Student/Social Justice Education Project Coordinator). Moderated by Elizabeth Soltero, REFORMA-Tucson President.
Description: UA and TUSD representatives will speak about current Arizona legislation SB1070 and HB2281. This discussion will focus on the impact of these laws on librarianship, education and equal access to information. Question and discussion will be moderated.
